So, some people that are new to Pixelmon (Or Pokémon in general) may not know about this, but it's very important if you're thinking about doing competitive battling.
EV Training. Time-consuming. Annoying. Makes you cry when you accidentally get your Pokémon the wrong EVs in the wrong stat. But, it's totally worth it when you're done EV training.
What in the world is an EV!?
Well, EV stands for "Effort Value." These help increase certain stats. It's recommended to begin maxing out EVs as soon as you get the Pokémon you're EV training.
Great! How do I get EVs?
You have to battle certain Pokémon to get EVs for the stats that you want. For example, beating a Magikarp will get your Pokémon 1 Speed EV. (OMG MAGIKARPS HAVE A USE )
How can I see how many EVs I have right now?
If you're playing on this server, you can actually do: /evs (PokemonSlot#)
If you're playing on your own world, you'll have to install a side mod to use that command. *NOTE* WILD POKÉMON YOU CATCH WILL HAVE 0 EVS.
Can I Get an Infinite Amount of EVs?
No, you cannot get infinite EVs! You can get a maximum of 510 EVs, and (maximum) 255 EVs in a stat.
How do these increase the stats of my Pokémon?
Basically, you get +1 Stat point for every 4 EVs your Pokémon gets WHEN YOUR POKÉMON REACHES LVL 100. You will only notice the full effect of EVs once your Pokémon reaches lvl 100. *ALSO*: If you decided to whip out a calculator and do 255/4 to see how many stat points you can get for one stat, you will have noticed that 4 doesn't go into 255. So, if you max out a stat at 255 EVs, you're wasting 3 EVs. *IMPORTANT*: It's best to max out at 252 EVs in a stat, so that you have an extra 6 EVs to use. You could put 4 of those EVs in a stat and gain 1 stat point, or you could save them just in case you accidentally battle and defeat the wrong Pokémon and get the wrong EVs. For example, if you wanted to EV Train a Pokémon in Speed and Attack, and you accidentally make an Oddish faint and you get 1 Special Attack EV from that Oddish; That's one of your 6 leeway EVs.
Is this going to take an eternity?
Yes. Yes, it will. Of course, you can speed up the EV training process with some items!
If you've ever wondered about what the Macho Braces, Power Anklets, Power Bands, Power Belts, Power Bracers, Power Lenses, and Power Weights in the Pokemall do, well, here's your answer: They get you extra EVs every time you make a Pokémon faint!
What each item does:
(ALL OF THESE ITEMS HALVE SPEED WHEN HELD.)
- Macho Brace - Doubles the amount of EVs you would usually get. - Power Anklet - Extra 4 Speed EVs
- Power Band - Extra 4 Special Defense EVs - Power Belt - Extra 4 Defense EVs
- Power Bracer - Extra 4 Attack EVs
- Power Lens - Extra 4 Special Attack EVs
- Power Weight - Extra 4 HP EVs
So, basically, you get EVs from the items AND the EVs from the Pokémon you beat. For example, if your Pokémon held a Power Anklet and it beat a Magikarp, it would get: Power Anklet's 4 Speed EVs + Magikarp's 1 Speed EV = 5 Speed EVs. If your Pokémon holds a Power Anklet and beats an Ekans, it gets: Power Anklet's 4 Speed EVs + Ekans 1 Attack EV = 4 Speed EVs and 1 Attack EV. These items are extremely useful, and I highly recommend using them. They can be obtained from Boss drops, PokeLoot chests, or from the Pokemall at /warp pokemall for about 10k.
Not Noticing a Difference?
You probably won't notice a huge difference until you reach lvl 100. If you compared two identical lvl 100 Pokémon, the EV trained one would be stronger than the other one.
Good Pokémon to Beat for EVs?
I had a few that I liked to farm for EVs, I'll list a few here:
Speed: Magikarp (1 EV), Golbat (2 EVs), and the occasional Rattata (1 EV) or Raticate (2 EVs)
Attack: Ekans (1 EV), Arbok (2 EVs), Bellsprout (1 EV), Goldeen (1 EV), and Seaking (2 EVs)
Sp. Attack: Gloom (2 EVs), Golduck (2 EVs), Magmar (2 EVs)
Sp. Defense: Tentacruel (2 EVs each, go to the ocean and farm for easy EVs), Tentacool (1 EV)
Defense: Metapod (2 EVs), Kakuna (2 EVs), Graveler (2 EVs, desert is your friend.), Sandslash (1 EV)
HP: Clefairy (2 EVs), Snorlax (2 EVs), Caterpie (1 EV), Jigglypuff (2 EVs), Kangaskhan (2 EVs)
I hope that this guide helps you with EV Training! Battle on!
